PTG Studios is pleased to announce the selection of Hexco Academic for its innovative, educational television series, Today's Family. Hexco will be shown in a segment on "The Power of Educational Tools." This segment will air nationally on the ABC Family Channel and WE Women's Entertainment and regionally on PAX-TV.
Hexco, located in the Texas Hill Country, offers a wide range of products, including study aids and software for academic competitions and home schooling.
Tom and Linda Tarrant, both former IBM systems engineers, founded the company in 1967, offering products for computer programmers (the company name is derived from Hexadecimal Company). As the three Tarrant daughters began competing in spelling bees at the local and national level, the focus of the family business shifted to encompass tools for the academic world. Hexco's offerings now include study aids for students at all levels for spelling bees, language arts, computer and math-related competitions, plus contests involving world and national events. With customer input, materials have also been tailored to fit a home school curriculum.
Hexco also works with the University Interscholastic League (UIL), a Texas organization in charge of many academic competitions within the public schools, and produces a myriad of study aids and tests for their competitions.
Hexco measures its success in the spelling arena by the number of customers who advance to the National Spelling Bee contest in Washington annually. In fact, the last six National Spelling Bee Champions used one or more of Hexco's products. "We want to share our love of spelling as a vital step in learning and language development," said Linda Tarrant.
